I saw my first pre-season game last night - the Lakers against the Nuggets - and was pretty impressed with what I saw. Looks like a good, solid team. I hope everyone stays healthy. (sorry that Gasol and Bynum were both out). I won't be able to update this forum like I have in the past. I have moved back to Oklahoma, and will be seeing only the games shown on national TV. Bummer. So, looks like I'll be looking forward to all those TNT games that I used to despise so much.

Infinity Honcho Posts: 1418 10/24/09 06:36 AM Infinity Honcho	Hi WM........So sorry to hear about your move to OK.....and your need to watch the Lakers on TNT........ I've watched a couple of the pre-season games but haven't paid too much attention yet. My overall impression is that they still need some work.....even if they're mostly keeping the same roster........ Tuesday is the start of the regular season and the game will be shown on TNT. Don't expect much....There's a heavy run of loses when teams receive their Championship rings. My TV schedule and life have been thrown off a bit......I had a series of heart attacks and heart surgery last May (mostly alright now)........but I should be watching most of this seasons games and will check in every few days. I hope we can get some regular posts going again....... Oooook.....I thought about it and then looked back to find I posted about my surgery back in June.....being sorta whacked here......the drugs they started me on, in May, have messed up my sleep schedule....for months...... Infinity Honcho Posts: 10461 10/25/09 12:23 PM	Hi, Sho! So sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope you're feeling better. Yeah, this economy really hit me hard. I was able to get a couple of writing gigs last year, but even those dried up when the economy tanked. And since I mostly have done sales, it's been a struggle trying to find work that's not just commission only. At the same time, my sister is getting married in November, and she will be leaving her ranch in Sapulpa, OK, so the timing seemed right to move back to help out. After all, there's only so much beautiful weather one can tolerate. I need to get back to the miserable, cold, windy and icy winters in Oklahoma. I think the Lakers will do just fine this year. I'm not sure how much Artest will help, but at least he'll keep it interesting. I'm gonna miss those Ariza steals, though. I'm looking forward to Tuesday's game, though. I hope TNT will show a little of the ring ceremony, but since it's the second game of a double-header, I'm not holding my breath.

Infinity Honcho Posts: 1419 10/26/09 09:45 AM Infinity Honcho	Heya WM.......My health isn't great....a number of issues next to my heart.....but I try to enjoy life just to spite it....... In the "silver lining" dept.........I quit smoking the day I entered the hospital......after 40 years..... and haven't gone back since May. I do miss it but my chances are so much better without. You should check all the news feeds after interesting Laker games.....there are many place to see highlights online. I know it's not the same but it might give you a better flow to the season... You might get coverage of the Laker "ring ceremony" on the Laker site. I hear the hired Peter Jackson to film a trilogy of it...... But seriously folks.......Hope all goes well in OK.......and don't get depressed about your job and finances. I've never seen more friends and family in such tight spots as these last couple years. You have a LOT of company.... It is starting to slowly improve but it'll take some time to erase the damage that's been done from the last two administrations.......

Infinity Honcho Posts: 10462 10/27/09 06:48 PM	Yeah, I don't feel too bad about moving back to Oklahoma. I loved California, and will definitely miss the weather and the people. Unfortunately, with the depressed economy, the cost of living in Los Angeles continues to stay sky-high. I've talked to a lot of people who have had friends and family members bailing out of California for the same reason. So, for now, this seems like the best option. And you're right, there's a lot of online places to watch Lakers clips. It's still not the same as watching the games on local TV with Stu and Joel's commentary, though. Just finished watching the Lakers get their rings! Thanks to TNT for showing the entire ceremony! I was shocked! (and thanks to the Celtics and Cavs for ending their game on time). Go Lakers!

I thought this was a ragged showing for the Lakers......team D was almost non-existent..... But....... It's the first game.....they still have to incorporate Artest into their system...and Pau was missing...... It'll come........ Meanwhile......some props to Andrew........26 pts and 13 boards!!......and to LO with 16pts 13 boards and 5 assists....... With a little luck.....and some work.....this could be the deepest Laker team we've seen since the 80s........ WM....Firdays game against Dallas is being shown on ESPN.....hope you get it back there...

Unfortunately, they have only 3 games showing for the entire month of November. Ugh! I'm thinking Artest is going to keep everybody motivated. I remember after the Lakers won their championships back at the beginning of the decade, they seemed to always come out playing flat and usually playing only as hard as they needed to. But now, with Kobe's continual fire and Artest's hunger for getting a ring, I don't think we'll see as much of that. At least I'm hoping.

I thought this was interesting: The Lakers received their NBA championship rings Tuesday at Staples Center before beating the Clippers, and their rewards are unlike any others. For the first time in league history, each player had an image of his face laser-inscribed on the side of his ring. The novel graphic is the product of Jason of Beverly Hills, the company that designed the rings. Each ring has 14 diamonds surrounding the image of the championship trophy-in honor of the Lakers' 15th all-time championship as a franchise. The diamonds are 2.85 karats total. I'd like to know how much those rings are worth! I also find it interesting - and satisfying - that the Cavs are 0-2 so far this season. Gee, I guess bringing in Shaq didn't solve all their problems after all!

It figures that one of the games being nationally televised had to be one where the Lakers sucked so bad! All that talk about the Lakers having a 20 and 1 record should die down about now. I'm really not surprised that this happened, though. Dallas came out playing hard and actually making some great shots. The Lakers came out flat (what did Phil call it..."a case of the slows"?!) and only got worse. Maybe this will motivate them to bring their 'A' game no matter who shows up. That would be nice.

I found out after calling Dish Network that I can add Fox Sports West (along with some other sports channels) to my programming for only $5.99 a month! That sure beats the price of the NBA Package they offer! Granted, not all of the games are on FSW, but most of them are! And, I'll get to hear Stu and Joel's banter.

The Lakers were slow, and couldn't buy a shot......and the only reason they stuck around was that Atlanta wasn't doing much better. The Lakers woke up, in the third quarter, and played the best I've seen this season.....running up a decent lead.....but then most of that back in a lackluster fourth. I'm really hoping that this is being caused by Paus absence and Artests having to learn the system...... Glad to hear your're getting FSN........It'll be nice to have someone else watching..... I was also going to ask.......do you get the Thunder home games?.....like their game against the Lakers on 11/3?....

Infinity Honcho Posts: 10467 11/02/09 06:40 PM	Yeah, last night I watched some of the Thunder game against Portland. Kevin Durant is a great player, and they should do pretty well this year. They should be broadcasting the Thunder/Laker game tomorrow night on the local channel. Still, I'd prefer seeing it on FSW, just for the commentary. However, sometimes when one game is on multiple channels, they will black it out. That shouldn't be the case, though, if I'm paying extra for a channel that's not normally showing in my area. I agree about missing Gasol. He should help settle everybody down and Odom will probably be back to coming off the bench, which will help spark the bench, which hasn't been doing all that great so far this season.

Infinity Honcho Posts: 10468 11/04/09 09:52 PM	Stupid Dish Network may offer these extra sports channels, but they also black out most of the freakin' games, anyway! I was able to see last night's game against the Thunder, but only a few minutes of tonight's game against the Rockets. (The NBA channel tuned in for the last 5 minutes of the game, but then they switched to something else without showing the overtime!!!) That was the game I really wanted to see, since I'm a big Trevor Ariza fan. Both road games ended up being real nail-biters, though. I gotta give it to the Lakers for hanging in there for both wins, but I'm still not too happy with how they're playing. Particularly Odom. He really needs to step it up...along with most of the bench players. It's still early in the season, but seeing how the Celtics (and others) are playing, the Lakers better step it up!

Bynum finally healed up and played a great game, almost matching Kobe's points, too!

Infinity Honcho Posts: 1423 11/16/09 10:40 PM Infinity Honcho	I've found the games to be frustrating this season.......to where my Wife tells me that she thinks I should give it a rest for awhile. I'm tending to agree with her and may not watch all the games until later in the season. The play has been very uneven and the defense has to improve........a lot!! It seems as if the players....and coach....are sleepwalking through it. They'd better get it together......there are a few teams who are ready and waiting to take away the title. Anyway.....gonna take a stress pill and not let this get to me........ I hate to say it but......here goes...... It looks like it's only you and I left here WM........and neither of us is going to be posting full-time........ It might be time to let it go......or to look for a more crowded alternative..... Even if I'm not staying up with every game....I'll check here to see whats goin on....... Hang in and I will talk with you soon......

I agree that these games can be more frustrating than enjoyable. What I saw of that loss to Denver was beyond aggravating. PJ once again let them continue to dig themselves further and further into a hole (I'm so tired of hearing these announcers talk about why Jackson refuses to call a time out, thinking they can figure it out themselves. These are basketball players, for crying out loud, they can't figure ANYTHING out themselves!). As I'm writing this, the Lakers are probably going to win their home game against Detroit. Woo-hoo. I'm not even missing watching this one. I'm sure the Lakers are gonna have a good season - they're too good not to - but I'm still hoping they have a GREAT season. Time will tell.

It seems that Ralph Lawler and Michael Smith, the two longtime Clipper game announcers were suspended one game from Fox Sports Prime for comments they made about a player from Iran. Someone listening to their comments sent an e-mail to Fox to complain, and Fox responded by suspending them for one game. Here's a transcript of what they said during the game between the Clippers and Memphis, when Memphis Center Hamed Haddadi joined the game late in the 4th quarter..... Smith: "Look who's in." Lawler: "Hamed Haddadi. Where's he from?" Smith: "He's the first Iranian to play in the NBA." (Smith pronounced Iranian as "Eye-ranian," a pronunciation that offended the viewer who complained.) Lawler: "There aren't any Iranian players in the NBA," repeating Smith's mispronunciation. Smith: "He's the only one." Lawler: "He's from Iran?" Smith: "I guess so." Lawler: "That Iran?" Smith: "Yes." Lawler: "The real Iran?" Smith: "Yes." Lawler: "Wow. Haddadi that's H-A-D-D-A-D-I." Smith: "You're sure it's not Borat's older brother?" Smith: "If they ever make a movie about Haddadi, I'm going to get Sacha Baron Cohen to play the part." Lawler: "Here's Haddadi. Nice little back-door pass. I guess those Iranians can pass the ball." Smith: "Especially the post players. Lawler: "I don't know about their guards." So does political correctness apply to clueless people, too?!

The Lakers have looked amazing since Paus return........last couple games were wins of over 20 points each........I know this was against the Warriors and Nets but those are the type of teams that the Lakers have traditionally not taken seriously. Go Team!!......They have the chance to dominate for the next few years and should take every advantage while they can. Now...It's my turn to get "off-topic"....heck, it's only the two of us, why make ya search a second board....... I imagine you heard about the two Rock Hall Of Fame concerts...in NYC last month? Last night, HBO showed four hours and ten minutes of highlights from those shows......I'm not usually a fan of this type of concert....low quality and many out of date musicians....but This Show Was Superb! I won't give any spoilers......in case you didn't catch it yet.......but I think this is a film that's not to be missed. We can discuss the details after you get a chance...... Infinity Honcho Posts: 10473 11/30/09 09:48 PM	Thanks for the heads-up on the HBO show...Sho! I've been seeing the promos for it, but didn't think it was going to be on until this Thursday?!! Now, I'm bummed if I missed some of it. When I moved here, I was able to transfer my Dish satellite service to my sister's place, and when I called to activate my service at this new location, I asked for 3 free months of HBO, which they gave me since I moved Dish services with me. Honestly, I only wanted HBO for two months to see Curb Your Enthusiasm. The finale was a week ago, but I planned on keeping the service until after the Rock and Roll Show (whatever they're calling it). Like I said, I didn't think it was on until Thursday. As for the Lakers, I'm a bit bummed out that there will only be 3 games televised nationwide during the month of December. I'll be able to see the pre-game and post-game shows on Fox Sports West, though. Whoopee. But, it's better than nothing. Glad you're still checking in, Sho. Maybe we'll get a few more random visitors from time to time.
